Data Sources & Provenance

Where the information on this site comes from, and how to tell the difference between a source, an editorial summary, and a generated draft.

Source categories we use

The tool records behind this site may draw on the following kinds of public and partner sources. Not every record uses every category:

  • Official vendor pricing pages — the product's own pricing page.
  • Official product documentation — the vendor's own docs and feature pages.
  • Public promotion pages — vendor or authorised-partner offer pages.
  • Public terms and conditions — the vendor's published offer terms.
  • Partner or affiliate links — outbound destinations we may be compensated for.
  • Public comparison data — publicly available feature and pricing comparisons.
  • Editorially maintained repository records — our own curated records for each tool.

Telling one kind of information apart from another

Not everything on a page is the same kind of claim. We distinguish:

  • Source URL — where a piece of information originated.
  • Pricing source — the page a price was taken from.
  • Coupon source — where an offer was found.
  • Verification evidence — what allowed us to mark an offer as verified (see the verification methodology).
  • Affiliate destination — the outbound link a click routes to; this is a commercial link, not a source.
  • Editorial summary — wording written or edited by us to explain a tool.
  • Generated summary — a draft produced with automated help; see AI transparency.

An affiliate destination is never evidence for a claim. A generated summary is a starting point, not a source.

A source link is a snapshot, not a guarantee

When we cite a source, it reflects what that page said at the time we read it. Sources change: vendors update prices, retire offers, and rewrite terms without notice. A source link does not guarantee that the information is still accurate today. Always confirm current pricing and terms on the merchant's own site before purchasing.

In our public API, source URLs are returned only when we actually hold a real, public URL; otherwise the field is an empty list. We do not invent or pad source URLs.

Corrections

If a source is wrong, missing, or out of date, tell us through the contact page with the page URL and what you found, and we will review and update the record.
